VINTAGE AD: Introducing the New Vivitar Super 8 Camera

I really love vintage ads. I think the illustrations and graphics are fabulous and I really enjoy reading the ad copy.

Vintage ads were more daring and controversial than ads of today. I think they were more clever, as well.

In this new “Vintage Ad” series, I’ll be sharing with you my favorite ads each week. Make sure to scroll to the bottom of this page to see some ideas for how you can use these ads.

Here’s one of my most favorite ads – this one is VERY clever and will make you laugh.

Vintage Ad

The ad is from the April 21, 1967 issue of TIME magazine. It’s an ad for the Vivitar Super 8 Movie Camera. Make sure to read all of the text. 🙂

I especially like the “0.2% flutter. 98.6% Wow” and the “parallax corrected. 900 mm. Extends to 975 mm. Accepts D cup accessories“. The “tickle here” is pretty good, too!

Creative Uses for Vintage Ads

There are many ways you can use vintage ads – both in your home decor and for your art projects. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Save this image to your computer (right-click and choose “Save Image As”, then use the digital copy in your digital art projects.
  • Resize the digital image and use it as a cover for a handmade notepad or travel journal.
  • Print a color copy of the ad, frame it and hang it in your home or office – a fun blast from the past.
  • Print color copies and use them as gift wrap for small gifts – especially fun for people who love vintage.
  • Print enlarged color copies of the digital file, then laminate the copies and use them as placemats – sure to be a conversation starter at the dinner table.
  • Use printed color (or black and white) copies for your decoupage projects (laser printer copies work better than ink jet copies).
  • Print the ad on iron-on transfer paper and create t-shirts, tote bags, napkins, and other craft ideas with fabric.
  • Turn printed copies of the ad into paper garland. Just trim the paper into any shape you prefer (such as a pennant flag), punch two holes in the top and thread twine through the holes to create a garland.
