Every week, I scour the internet to find interesting articles or websites to share with you. Sometimes related to home decor, often times related to vintage, and always fun and interesting! Topics that start conversations, teach you something new, or make you think.
Pour yourself a cup of coffee and tune in each Saturday for “The Conversation Piece” – you never know what we’ll discover to talk about!
The Conversation Piece this Week
I’ve been planting annuals on and off all week using my trusty potting bench. When I saw this article this week “Great Home Project: How to Set Up a Potting Station” on Houzz, I knew it was something I had to share with you.
A few of my favorite photos from the above linked article:
My Mom owned a nursery and landscape company for many years. I share her love of plants, especially annuals. I plant around 800 annuals every year in and around our landscaping. In the past, I used my garden wagon as a portable potting bench. I’d sit on a stool next to the wagon and pot plants all day – until Mom gave me a potting bench from her nursery. I loved that cedar potting bench of hers! It had an upright on the back (much like the benches in two of the photos above), as well as a cut out area that had a recessed tub to hold soil. Every year, my husband and kids carried that potting bench out of storage and up to our driveway for me to use. I definitely got a lot of mileage out of that bench! Since I’ve retired that bench, my brother built a new rolling potting bench for me as a gift, using the wood that was originally arbors at Mom’s nursery. This new bench is now double-special to me!
While my potting bench is stored by the shed when I am not using it, one day I would love to have a potting bench in a permanent area that I could use all Summer long. The article in the link above gives some ideas on what you can use for a potting bench. I especially like the repurposed vintage table idea.
