Question: Have You Ever Taken Something From a FREE Pile? 6

We want to hear your opinion…

We’ve all seen them. The piles at the end of driveways or left along side the curb with a FREE sign. Castoffs no longer wanted or needed, and put there – free for the taking. Some people are uncomfortable stopping to rummage through these piles, while other people make it their routine to find piles like these in their area.

There are sections on Craiglist where you can advertise your “free pile” (for free), so if you’re looking for a pile of stuff near you, make sure to check that out. Local Facebook Groups are another resource for finding these castoffs. And of course, there’s nothing like driving down the road and suddenly pulling to the side to stop, because you spotted something interesting in a pile of free stuff!  We call this a “hit and run”.

Sure, some piles of free stuff are probably not worth stopping for, but it sure is exciting when you do find something that you can use!

We want to know… Have you ever taken something from a FREE pile at the end of a driveway? What did you find and how are you using it?

YES!! We call it “curb alert” and I have scored some good stuff off the curb. When I was young, I used to try to shrink down into the car seat when my Mom would stop at a pile of stuff in front of someones house. To my horror she would pick something up and put it in the car! Then as I got older I started doing it! The apple truly never falls far from the tree does it?

Free, means the option to take the piece that speaks to you. The options are endless, repurpose it, refinish it and place it in your home. The end result is a piece you
Were lucky enough to find, put your Style to work and create a Fun masterpiece. What a backstory you have with each little/large piece that the Universe had you in the right place at the right time.
Be grateful and don’t take every piece you find, when it does not speak to you. Share with the rest of us pickers!
See you on the Road for pure Fun 😎

it reminds me a “fun”? situation. My eldest sister-in-law; since living in a big city used to “pick up” (in the1990s) nice designer clothes left from a Free pile in her nearest neighborhood ; a chic area!:). One day, she gave me several clothes (not used and like New!!), including a lovely Chanel trademark pullover ! I could not wait wearing my pullover…Then, we got out for a walk in the neighborhood:) but we ran into the previous “owner”. I did not know about her, but my sister-in-law did! Oh my! what a surprise! the “lady” turned to me and strongly looked at my pullover. In brief, she did recognize “her” Chanel pullover. My sister-in-law had been feeling such embarrassment, so that she decided to do not pick up anything more from the Free pile in the CHic area… as for myself:) I was Proud of my Chanel pullover. Yeaah! 🙂

What a great story, Solveig – that made me smile! I can just imagine the original owner looking at her previous pullover! But… she got rid of it, so it was fair-game! I’m sure it looked great on you, too!
