7 Unexpected Uses for a Vintage Skateboard 2

Vintage skateboards have so much character! The cool metal wheels, the great graphics and bright colors make the skateboards look fun in any decor. Of course you could display a vintage skateboard on a shelf or hung on a wall, but there are lots of other fun ways you could use a retro skateboard!

Here are some ideas:

Unique Shelf

With a couple of brackets from your local home improvement store, you can turn a skateboard into a unique shelf. Perfect for a kids bedroom, family room, game room, or even fun for an office. Use the shelf to display your trophies, trinkets, and treasures.

Plant Holder

Place one, two, or three small potted plants on the skateboard and use it as a plant holder. The wheels on the skateboard allow you to roll your plants into and out of the sun as needed. A quirky piece of home decor.

Lazy Susan

For something really fun and different, use the skateboard as a “Lazy Susan” on your dining room table! Place your salt, pepper, and other condiments on the skateboard and then just roll them down to each person as needed. Your kids will think you’re especially cool with this idea!

Clever Stool

Turn a vintage skateboard into a fun stool! You can find inexpensive stool legs at most home improvement stores. Attach the skateboard to the stool to form the seat. Fun for a family game room, child’s bedroom, or even home bar. Make a low, rolling shop stool by mounting two skateboards side-by-side for a base, and two more side-by-side for the seat. Attach threaded iron pipe flanges to the top of the base, and the bottom of the seat – then connect them together with a short piece of threaded iron pipe in whatever length you desire. A one-of-a-kind rolling shop stool!

Radical Table Top

Mount several skateboards side-by-side to form a clever table top. Use hairpin legs – or  mount skateboard wheels to the bottoms of tapered wooden legs for unique “feet”. Screw them into the bottom of the legs for a stable base, or run bolts through them to form wheels for a rolling table! Use as many skateboards as you want – a couple of them would make a unique bedside table or plant stand. Half a dozen or so would make a cool computer desk or end table. A dozen or more would create an awesome coffee table, bar top, or breakfast table! Wicked cool!

Pet Food Holder

Here’s your chance to make something cool for your pet – turn a vintage skateboard into a pet food holder! Use a hole saw to cut one or two holes in the top deck of the skateboard – large enough for stainless steel pet food bowls, then drop the bowls into the holes. The rims on the bowls will hold them in place. Since the skateboard still has it’s wheels, it helps to elevate the pet food bowls, making it easier for your pet to eat.

Tree Swing

Turn your vintage skateboard into a swing! Remove the trucks from the skateboard, then thread a long piece of heavy-duty rope through the holes – one end of the rope through one hole, looped around a sturdy tree branch, then the other end of that rope through the other hole. Tie knots in the ends of the ropes to secure the skateboard. Repeat this for the other set of holes. Now your kids will have a fun tree swing that they can stand on and pretend they are riding the rails! You can turn this into an indoor swing as well, just make sure to secure the swing into ceiling trusses to support the weight of whomever is swinging. To hold additional weight, add lumber (or metal bar) reinforcement under the skateboard to prevent it from breaking.
