There is nothing like the constant flow of vintage items coming into our house to help instill in our kids an appreciation for vintage items and their history. Every day here is like a history and research lesson. Our boys have stated that they have probably seen and learned about things that most people will never see in their life. I think that’s cool!
Case in point… we picked up an odd looking sort of caliper tool from a local farmstead estate sale. We bought it just because we thought it looked cool and industrial. We had just arrived home from the sale when our neighbor stopped by as we were unloading the truck with our “new to us” vintage finds. Our neighbor looked at the caliper tool and asked if we knew what it was. We said no, and asked if he knew. “Yep” he said with a sly grin. Our excitement at finding out what this tool was quickly diminished when our neighbor – a farmer who breeds and raises cattle – matter-of-factly said “that right there is a cow castrating tool”. Yikes! Oh well, it is still a cool looking tool. LOL.
