14 Days of Vintage Travel Ads – Day 4: Canada

All aboard! Travel the world “virtually” from the comfort of your own home with our Travel Ad blog series!

Our stop on Day 4 on this 14-day journey is Canada!

From the ad:

Come aboard “The Canadian” and “The Dominion”, in daily service year-round between Montreal-Toronto and Vancouver, and you will find a happy combination of spacious comfort and gracious service. Widely spaced seats in the coaches have full-length head and leg room. (And no matter which class you travel on “The Canadian”, all seats are reserved at no extra cost!) Enjoy the very finest Canadian cuisine. But most important: you will see some of the world’s most magnificent scenery from the scenic domes! En route, you may want to stop off at Banff and Lake Louise. Nestled mile-high in the Canadian Rockies, these luxurious mountain retreats are world-famous for their spectacular surroundings and gracious hospitality.

Creative Uses for Vintage Ads

There are many ways you can use vintage ads – both in your home decor and for your art projects. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Save this image to your computer (right-click and choose “Save Image As”, then use the digital copy in your digital art projects.
  • Resize the digital image and use it as a cover for a handmade notepad or travel journal.
  • Print a color copy of the ad, frame it and hang it in your home or office – a sense of wanderlust.
  • Print color copies and use them as gift wrap for small gifts – especially fun for the world traveler.
  • Print enlarged color copies of the digital file, then laminate the copies and use them as placemats – sure to be a conversation starter at the dinner table.
  • Use printed color (or black and white) copies for your decoupage projects (laser printer copies work better than ink jet copies).
  • Print the ad on iron-on transfer paper and create t-shirts, tote bags, napkins, and other craft ideas with fabric.
  • Turn printed copies of the ad into paper garland. Just trim the paper into any shape you prefer (such as a pennant flag), punch two holes in the top and thread twine through the holes to create a garland. Fun decor for a bon voyage party.

Watch for the next installment of our 14-day trip and enjoy the journey!

If you could travel to any place in the world right now, where would you go and why?
